Experienced Minister of Music

St. John Baptist Church, located in Columbia, MD, is currently seeking a part time Minister of Music. St. John Baptist Church is a spirit filled organization that is on the move. Our membership exceeds 800 members and we are in the process of building a new facility.

Typical job duties include:

 Direct the planning, scheduling, coordinating, operation, and evaluation of a comprehensive music ministry.
 Prepare and manage music ministry budget
 Oversee and evaluate the performances and programs in the music component of the Worship Ministry of the church.
 Coordinate the church music ministry activities with the church-wide calendar.
 Assist the Pastor in planning and selecting music that fits the worship styles for congregational services of the church.
 Work with the Pastor and Assistant Pastor in determining music ministry goals, organization, leadership, musicians, facilities, finances and administration processes.
 Enlist and train choir directors and musicians for the church music ministry in cooperation with the Pastor.
 Supervise the work of all music leaders in the music ministry.
 Conduct regular meetings of the music ministry.
 Make periodic reports as requested to the Assistant Pastor.
 Ensure choirs and musicians are prepared for Sunday worship service and other related services.
 Meet emergency music needs of the church.
 Be musician for two (2) choirs
 Substitute as an accompanist when needed

Position Requirements:

 3 or more consecutive years of experience as a Minister of Music
 Proficiency in playing music by-ear
 Proficiency in reading and playing piano/organ
 Proficiency in managing/instructing various styles of liturgical music (i.e., gospel music, traditional gospel music, contemporary gospel, hymns, spirituals, anthems, and praise worship)
 Degree in Music (preferred)
 Church-related references

Compensation for this position is negotiable and commensurate with experience.
